英文法から

ある意味ではモーダル動詞に似ており、ある意味では主動詞に似ているため、 Ought to は準モーダル動詞です。たとえば、モーダル動詞とは異なり、その後に to が続きますが、モーダル動詞と同様に、人の形を変えません。

I ought to phone my parents.

It ought to be easy now.

肯定的

動詞句の最初に来る Ought to です（主語の後、別の動詞の前）：

We ought to do more exercise.

Ought to は、別の法助動詞と一緒に使用することはできません:

Medicine ought to be free.

注: Medicine ought to can be free です。または Medicine can ought to be free です。

ネガティブ

否定形は、 ought (ought not to )。するべきではないと契約 oughtn’t to ことができます。 don’t 、 doesn’t, didn’t を ought to と一緒に使用しません:

We ought not to have ordered so much food.

注: We don’t ought to have ordered so much food 。

You oughtn’t to have said that about his mother.

Not: You didn’t ought to have said that about his mother .

ought to の否定形は一般的ではありません。通常、代わりに shouldn’t または should not を使用します。

You shouldn’t speak to your father like that. （ You oughtn’t to speak ）

質問

件名と ought to 質問を形成するために位置を変更します。 do, does, did 使用しません。

Ought she to call the police?

Not: Does she ought to call the police?

Ought we to be more worried about the environment?

ought to の疑問形はあまり一般的ではありません。とてもフォーマルです。通常は代わりに should を使用します。

望ましいことや理想的なことについて話すときは、 ought to を使用します。

Ought to か、 should か？

Ought to と should は意味が似ています。 Should は should ought to よりも一般的です。 should Ought to は should よりもフォーマルです。

There ought to be more street lights here. ( be more street lights here There should と同じ意味です。)

I really ought to walk my dog more. He’s so fat. (犬をもっと散歩させた should I really という意味 walk my dog more. He’s so fat います。)

口語英語：

話し方では、通常 should ought to を含む句のタグとして should を使用します。
